Frequent Fliers gets you ready for flights and feelings

Sometimes it is best to read a book without knowing anything, and that is what I did with Frequent flyer by Noue Kirwan.

For those who don’t know, Frequent flyer is Kirwan’s second novel and her debut was Summer is long gone. Whether you’ve read her first book or not, this cover is sure to catch your eye.

Although the cover was the first thing that caught my eye, I have to admit that I didn’t know much about this book beforehand. I knew it was about two people who are constantly on the same flights, but the book ended up being so much more than that.

With that being said, I would like to thank Canary Street Press for sending me an ARC so I could read the book ahead of time and share my thoughts with you all.

Frequent flyer begins with our main character Melanie aka Lanie on her way to her cousin’s engagement party in England. Before she can even catch her flight, she meets an idiot on the way there and as you can imagine, he is sitting in her row. Although they seem like an unlikely pair, despite their rocky start, the two talk and have fun on the flight.

Lanie even confesses to him that she isn’t as happy as she should be when she finds out that her cousin and her best friend are engaged. We quickly find out that Lanie has been pining after Jonah and feels more hurt than she cares to admit. Things get even more complicated when she ends up being his “best friend” and her maid of honor at the wedding.

Meanwhile, Lanie’s seatmate Ridley has to travel back and forth for work. Since she’s helping with the wedding planning, the two keep seeing each other. The more time the two spend together, the more feelings develop between them, but this is definitely a slow burn.

What I loved most about Frequent flyer was how much was going on between these two. Ridley and Lanie were such complex characters. Ridley is a single father trying to raise his daughter and is reeling from the loss of his wife. He’s also dealing with custody issues and honestly, that’s a lot to deal with. Lanie has a lot of complex emotions about Jonah and Gemma getting together, plus she’s dealing with other family issues, making decisions about her career and sorting it all out while helping to plan the wedding.

Frequent flyer The conflict in the third act is familiar territory, but it was also so exciting and dramatic that you won’t be able to put the book down. There are also some great, steamy scenes. Although the book was a little long for my taste, it’s a good choice for anyone looking for a longer read while on vacation.
