In their final warm-up games before the start of the Premier League season, Slot’s side will face Sevilla in front of fans (12.30pm BST) and Las Palmas behind closed doors (5pm BST).

“I hope you all had a great summer break, but I know you will all be as excited as I am about our return to competition next week,” Slot writes.

“This game (against Sevilla) and the one against Las Palmas will hopefully be ideal preparation for our first Premier League game at Ipswich Town (next) Saturday.

“As you know, I have been fortunate enough to experience the atmosphere at Anfield as a spectator before, but this is my first taste as Liverpool Head Coach and I look forward to seeing – and hearing – you all! I know you will give my players, staff and me your full support going forward.

“As you can imagine, pre-season has been busy but I think it has been extremely positive, on and off the pitch.

“Our tour of the United States was successful and enjoyable. We did a lot of really good work on the training pitch and it was also a chance for newcomers to the club like myself to get a real taste of the passion and commitment of our fans around the world.

“Seeing the fans in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Columbia – at the hotel, at practice and at games – reminded me of the incredible global appeal of this club. I knew that beforehand, of course, but it never hurts to be reminded and for me as the new head coach, it was certainly a special experience.

“Of course people look at the results we have achieved in our friendlies and it is true that we have had some good wins against strong opponents from which we can certainly take a lot of positives.

“I’ve seen intensity, I’ve seen sharpness and I’ve seen an understanding of the way we play – and of course beating both Arsenal and Manchester United, two of our rivals in the Premier League, never hurts either.

“But I also have high standards, and although I saw a lot of things in the US that I liked about the team, I also know that there are many areas where we can and must improve and develop. The players know that too – they have high standards too – and I expect we will see that improvement in the coming days and weeks, hopefully starting (Sunday).”
