Quintana needs a good start and he got one in June against the Padres, where he limited them to one run and two hits in six innings. The Padres have the following career numbers against Quintana:

Game Notes

The Mets enter Sunday’s game trailing the Atlanta Braves for the final wild-card spot by 2.0 games. The Braves faced the Washington Nationals in Sunday’s early game and lost 5-1.

Before Sunday’s game, the Mets placed starting pitcher Paul Blackburn on the 15-day injured list because of a bruised right hand. At the same time, relief pitcher Huascar Brazoban is back in the team.

Before Sunday’s game, the Mets released the experienced outfielder Eddie Rosario. Rosario went 3-for-29 with eight strikeouts for Triple-A Syracuse since signing with the Atlanta Braves following his release.

Three things to look out for

  1. Francisco Lindor, the MVP. Francisco Lindor is now at 6.5 fWAR, 0.2 ahead Shohei Ohtani for the National League lead. On Saturday night, Lindor hit 2 for 5 with two home runs, including a grand slam, raising his RBI total this season to 78. Lindor has played in 17 games since Aug. 7, posting a batting average of .375/.416/.708 with 11 multi-hit games. His OPS+ of 135 is the best of his career.
  2. Both teams have their best bullpens ready for action. As the SNY Stand noted early in Saturday’s game, neither team needed to use their best relievers due to losses earlier in the series. Well, Saturday’s game was also a loss, as neither team had their best relievers to call upon.
  3. Harrison Bader. Harrison Bader was in a slump. Before his home run in the 8th inning on Saturday night, he had struck out 0 in his last 14 at-bats. There was a time this season when Harrison Bader provided a spark at the bottom of the lineup that propelled the Mets forward. Hopefully his home run yesterday is a sign of things to come.
