General Election Preview: 2024 General Election in Michigan

When is election day?

Michigan residents can vote in person in the 2024 general election on Tuesday, November 5.

Any registered voter can participate in the general election in Michigan.

Who is on the ballot this time?

In the November general election, voters can choose from candidates for a variety of offices, from President of the United States to local school board candidates.

How to vote

Michigan residents have several options to choose from.

Absent: Registered voters can request a mail-in ballot online using the state’s online absentee ballot application form. Voters can request a mail-in ballot up to 75 days before an election by submitting a completed mail-in ballot application to their local clerk.

Early in person: Early voting begins the second Saturday before Election Day and ends the Sunday before the election, according to the Michigan Secretary of State’s website. However, some communities may decide to allow up to 28 days of early voting.

For the 2024 general election cycle, that means early voting could begin any time between Monday, October 7, and Saturday, October 26. Check with your local official to find out when early voting begins in your community.

On election day: Polling stations are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time. Voters have the right to cast their vote if they are in line at the polling station by 8:00 p.m.

Where can I check if I am registered to vote?

Michigan residents can check a variety of information online at the Department of State, including:

  • Whether they are registered to vote;
  • Where the nearest postal ballot boxes are located;
  • Where their polling station is if they vote in person, and;
  • Where your local clerk’s office is located.
