Giants 2024 roster cut tracker: Tracking New York’s moves toward 53-man roster limit

Sunday, August 25

According to head coach Brian Daboll, the New York Giants released 10 players on Sunday morning. These are:
DL Kyler Baugh
CB Breon Borders
S Clayton Isbell
WR John Jilles
RB Joshua Kelley
LB Trey Kizer
Running back Lorenzo Lingard
OL Marcus McKethan
WR Ayir Asante

The biggest news may be the release of McKethan, a fifth-round pick by Joe Schoen in 2022.

Daboll also announced that defensive tackle Timmy Horne tore his Achilles tendon during Saturday night’s game against the New York Jets.

Training camp and preseason are over. The New York Giants and the other 31 NFL teams have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET to trim their rosters from 90 players to the 53-man regular-season limit. In this post, you can follow all the cuts, transfers, waivers and signings as the Giants assemble the roster that will face the Minnesota Vikings in the Giants’ season opener on Sept. 8 at MetLife Stadium.

This is a difficult time for NFL players. Players who are not assured of a spot on the roster have done everything they can. Now all they can do is wait for a call they hope doesn’t come. Some will end their careers. Others will continue their NFL journey in an unknown location. Even for those who make the roster, there are mixed emotions. They know several players they have worked with and perhaps grown close to over the past few months will no longer be there after Tuesday.

Wide receiver Allen Robinson, in his 11th season, is unsure for the first time in his career whether he will make the 53-man roster on cut down day.

“Whatever happens will happen,” Robinson said after Saturday’s final game of the season against the New York Jets. “If you had asked me a few weeks ago how I would approach this, I would have said that I would have good days in training camp, be consistent and so on and so forth. At this stage of the game, what is meant to be, is meant to be.”

Robinson is fighting for a spot as an extra receiver and said, “I feel like I’ve made good plays all summer.” Now all he can do is wait.

Veteran center Austin Schlottman entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He played time with the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings before signing with the Giants in the offseason. He’s familiar with the practices leading up to cut-down day and said it’s “absolutely” a strange time for players.

“You just hang out with the guys, try not to think about everything and hope you don’t get a call, but if you do, then that’s just how it is,” Schlottman said. “You pray you don’t get a call, but if you do, then that’s part of it.”

“It’s kind of what you sign up for. It’s that time of year.”

Undrafted rookie free agent guard Jake Kubas appears to be stuck between the 53-man roster and the practice squad. He’s trying not to worry about it.

“I’ve always been a guy who controls what he can control,” Kubas said. “I think I’ve had some good experiences and some bad experiences. But I’ll always say that. I always think I can do better and improve.”

“Whatever happens, happens.”

Hundreds of players across the league feel the same way.

Keep coming back here for updates as the Giants assemble their roster for the 2024 season.
