Gotham City Sirens No. 4: That’s all, folks

This miniseries by Gotham City Sirens has been a wild and amazing ride, and issue four is no exception. Williams concludes the series perfectly, bringing everything together while leaving the door open for more adventures with the team.

Issue four stands out as the best of the series. Williams’ writing is as strong as ever, taking the Sirens to new heights. From a giant Ivy plant robot to a thrilling battle between Harley and Punchline, this issue has it all. The humor is second to none, with banter between Ivy, Harley, Dumb Bunny, and Punchline that feels fresh and modern. The fight scenes are also incredibly well written, with moments that elicit reactions like “OMG” and “Ugh, ahhh.” I love how Williams leaves the team, including White Rabbit, in a way that suggests the Sirens are far from done—hopefully there are more team adventures to come. Taking on a team like the Sirens is no small feat given the legacy of the previous series, but Williams really does them justice.

The illustrations by Ted Brandt (Crowded), Daniel Hillyard (Plastic: Death & Dolls), and Ro Stein (Crowded) are, in my opinion, the best of the series. The loose, free-flowing style (reminiscent of Crowded, a personal favorite) fits the characters and standout moments of this series perfectly. The illustrations blend seamlessly and add a humorous touch to the comic, with expressive facial expressions that enhance the entire experience. I hope to see more illustrations like these in superhero comics, as they would fit perfectly with an ongoing Harley or Sirens series (please, DC).
