Gulfstream G400 completes maiden flight and starts test program

Gulfstream’s new G400 completed its maiden flight this week, kicking off the aircraft’s flight test program, the company announced.

According to the company, the G400 took off from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (KSAV) in Georgia and remained airborne for 2 hours and 55 minutes, reaching a speed of Mach 0.85 and an altitude of 41,000 feet.

“The aircraft accomplished this mission using a blend of sustainable aviation fuel from Gulfstream’s Savannah campus,” Gulfstream said.

The G400 features Gulfstream’s cleanwing aerodynamic design with winglets for better efficiency. Power is provided by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW812GA engines. The cockpit features the Symmetry Flight Deck and Predictive Landing Performance System, which Gulfstream says “helps improve flight safety and pilot situational awareness.”

The G400 can be configured to seat nine to twelve passengers. The aircraft offers the company’s proprietary “Gulfstream Cabin Experience” with “100 percent fresh, never-recirculated air purified by a plasma ionization clean air system,” as well as light from the aircraft’s ten oval panoramic windows.

“The completion of the first flight is a significant milestone for the G400,” said Mark Burns, president of Gulfstream. “It further demonstrates the maturity of Gulfstream’s new aircraft programs and the benefits of deliberately designed commonalities across our next-generation fleet.”
