Hemnet CEO resigns | Online marketplaces

Cecilia Beck-Friis has announced her resignation from the market-leading Swedish real estate portal Hemnet after seven years in this role.

Beck-Friis informed Hemnet’s board this week that she will leave the company within the next 12 months and will remain in her current position until a successor has been appointed, at the latest by July 2025.

She said:

“After seven transformative and exciting years at Hemnet, I have decided to consider the next step in my career. It was not an easy decision, but the timing seems right. We have delivered what we promised and more: we have invested in and developed a scalable platform and product that will continue to grow well into the future.

“In addition, we have a strong and motivated team and a real estate market that is on the road to recovery. However, until a successor is appointed, I will continue to lead Hemnet with full commitment.”

In a post on her personal Linkedin page, Beck-Friis added:

“It’s a bittersweet moment. I’m sad to be leaving such an exceptional company, but I’m also excited about the future. Above all, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together in my seven years at Hemnet.

We redesigned our product and built a scalable platform for further growth. Our revenue grew from SEK 250 million to over a billion, significantly increasing profitability. We evolved our company with a focus on solving customer problems, innovation and fostering a culture of learning and curiosity.

“The work we have done to build a world-class company and one of Sweden’s most attractive employers has paid off. This is reflected in the increasing number of highly qualified candidates we find when looking for new talent. We have also successfully made the transition from a private to a publicly listed company, demonstrating our ability to navigate and thrive in a dynamic environment while delivering exceptional value to users, customers and shareholders.”

Anders Nilsson, CEO of Hemnet, said:

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to Cecilia and the Board for their outstanding contribution to Hemnet. Together with her team, she has driven exceptional development and growth for the company.

“Hemnet has been a hub for the Swedish real estate market for 25 years. Under Cecilia’s leadership, the company has expanded its product offering, quadrupled its sales and made the transition from a private company to a listed company. This has given Hemnet a stable foundation for its continued growth.”

Francesca Cortesi, Chief Product Officer, also recently left Hemnet, leaving the company with two important positions to fill in the coming months.

Hemnet reported a 61% increase in operating profit in its second quarter results released in July 2024.
