High-quality “FF4 #1” and “Amazing Fantasy #15” lead the next HA signature auction

Heritage Auctions is auctioning a CGC 9.6 with White Pages Fantastic Four #1 (1961) and a CGC VF/NM 9.0 Off-white to White Pages Curator Pedigree Amazing imagination No. 15 at their signature auction from September 12 to 15, 2024.

The copy of Fantastic Four #1 (1961) in this auction is the highest-graded copy of this book ever auctioned by Heritage. Moreover, according to Overstreet, no copies of this book are known to be of a higher quality. The highest-graded copy of Fantastic Four #1 sold by Heritage (a CGC 9.2 with white pages) sold for $1.5 million in April 2022 (see “‘Fantastic Four’ #1 Breaks Million Dollar Mark”).

The other heavyweight in this auction is a CGC VF/NM 9.0 Off-white to White Pages Curator Pedigree Amazing Fantasy #15. Although not as sharp as the CGC 9.6 Amazing imagination #15, which sold for $3.6 million in 2021 (see “Marvel’s ‘Amazing Fantasy #15′”), should be a good test of the market for higher-end comics in the post-pandemic market. It should sell quite well, as it’s also a comic with pedigree.

This auction also includes an interesting piece of original comic art. The original cover for wolverine #1 (1988) by legendary Marvel artist John Buscema is up for sale and has already been bid up to $90,000. The cover is iconic as the comic was the first ongoing Wolverine solo series and featured the character in his black suit for the first time.
