High-resolution screenshots from the KRAVEN THE HUNTER trailer show how ridiculous Sony’s mutated rhino looks

This morning, Sony Pictures has released a bloody new trailer for the long-delayed Kraven the Hunter Film. On the surface, it looks like an entertaining, incredibly violent action adventure.

However, since Kraven is one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies, many fans are understandably disappointed to see the hunter turn into an animal-loving murderer. Add to that the fact that Avi Arad is producing, and we’re in for a bizarre Morbius-Style changes to the comics.

The new preview shows one of them, as we see more of the “mutated” Rhino. This villain is a tough nut to crack; The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Attempts to put him in a mechanical suit failed, and it is admittedly difficult to recreate the character’s size on screen in his classic, skin-tight costume.

At first glance, this version of Rhino looks relatively comic book accurate, but some new high-resolution screenshots (via @Cryptic4KQual) show just how silly Alessandro Nivola’s angry villain looks here.

Not only does he wear black pants that have somehow grown with him, but Rhino’s cartoon face is truly the stuff that memes are made of. And given his size, it wouldn’t have been that difficult to cast a hulking bodybuilder in the role and put him in a suit (Deadpool and Wolverines Juggernaut is a good example of this).

“These films all have a certain concept, but JC said he wanted to shoot everything on location,” Nivola previously commented on the project. “The physical prowess of the characters in the film is also more grounded in reality. There are no people flying around or anything. JC described him as the most incredible Olympic athlete you’ve ever seen.”

“It’s just a great role and I didn’t have to use any CGI techniques,” he continued. “I don’t physically transform until the last moments of the film, so it’s just a classic villain role. There was a really interesting, complex psychology and personal history to draw on, and there’s a time jump in the film, so the character changes a lot from where he was at the beginning of the film.”
