Honda kept everyone guessing with the teaser video about what the manufacturer is planning – a silent revolution is coming. Now, all is revealed. The company has unveiled the 2019 Honda Activa 125 FI, the company’s BS6 compliant vehicle. It also features FI technology among other industry-first features. It also has a silent start. How does Honda do it?

2019 Honda Activa 125 BS6 Silent Secret
ACG (alternator) is the technology that makes the engine so quiet. Instead of having two separate generators for the electrics and the starter, one is used for both. This cranks the scooter and supplies power to the electrics. It is on as soon as the key is turned in. There are no gears and therefore no noise like on a conventional scooter. Honda also keeps the exhaust valves slightly open to allow decompression and therefore less noise. In addition, there is a swing-back feature that allows the piston to start. All of this results in the engine starting with minimal power from the ACG.
Five things you should know about the new Honda Activa 125 BS-6
1. Engine modifications
Since the Honda Activa 125 gets a BS-6 engine, there are many changes on board. As a result of BS6, it gets a fuel injection system that helps in reducing emissions. Moreover, mileage and performance also improve. The engine is now equipped with an ACG starter that eliminates the ignition noise. The i3S technology is Honda’s first that basically turns off the engine when idling. With a twist of the throttle, the engine switches on automatically. This technology is intelligent and therefore helps to save a lot of fuel.
2. Suspension and brakes
The new Activa gets a new three-stage adjustable rear monoshock with the same telescopic forks at the front. The top spec offers disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. CBS is fitted as standard on all variants. In other words, the 2019 Honda Activa 125 now offers a better ride.
3. Cosmetic sales
Cosmetic improvements are minor and include revised headlights, revised tail section, new glove box at the front and chrome detailing on the side skirts. The overall design remains the same, it just looks a bit more premium than before. 4. Bookings and prices
Honda launched the BS-6 Activa 125 this week. Prices will be announced then itself, but officials suggest that it will increase by a maximum of 10-15%. Currently, the Activa 125 is priced between Rs 60,000 and Rs 64,700 (ex-showroom Delhi), so expect prices to go up to Rs 72,000 for the top variant.
5. BS 6 functions
The Honda Activa 125 BS-6 gets a revised instrument cluster with range, instantaneous and average fuel consumption, external fuel cap, LED headlamps and position lamps and i3S technology. Some of these features are available for the first time on a scooter, making it an exciting proposition.

2019 Honda Activa 125 BS6 Specifications
Featuring Honda’s highly efficient and advanced 125cc HET BS-VI engine and advanced programmed fuel injection system. The system feeds optimum fuel to the cylinder according to the instantaneous feedback from the sensors. This is BS6 technology but the performance figures remain the same. The scooter has around 8 bhp and 10 Nm of torque. However, it also features a top-notch side stand indicator with engine lock that stops the engine from starting when the side stand is on so the rider doesn’t have to worry.
Honda has also added several new features to the Activa 125 BS6 to make it more attractive to buyers. It gets a new semi-digital instrument console that displays information like fuel consumption, range and mileage in real time, in addition to the standard features like odometer, clock, ECO indicator and service indicator.

The design hasn’t changed much, but there are some new styling elements. The new signature touches are the chrome trim at the front and the embossed Activa 125 logo on the tail light.

To sum up, the Honda Activa 125 BS-VI will compete with the likes of the Hero Destini 125, Maestro Edge 125 and Suzuki Access 125 in the Indian market. These are all premium scooters that compete with each other.
