Honesty of online daters in Maryland worse than in many US states, says survey

MARYLAND – When it comes to online dating in Maryland, potential partners on popular dating apps like Tinder, Bumble and Hinge are more likely to lie to you than in many other U.S. states.

A new report from DatingAdvice.com surveyed 3,000 single daters across America. Respondents were asked to rate their online dating experiences on a scale of 1 to 10 based on how honest the people they matched with were about their age, occupation or appearance.

The aim was to “improve the perceived integrity of Profile To Dating apps and provide a clearer picture of how users present themselves in the digital dating landscape,” the survey says.

In Maryland, there is a 50 percent chance that you will fall victim to an online dating scam. Maryland received an honesty score of 5.0 out of 10. Nationally, the average honesty score was a mediocre 5.1 out of 10.

South Dakota received the highest score with 7.5 out of 10, followed by Alaska with 7.3 and Delaware with 7.0.

The states with the least honest online daters were Rhode Island and New York with a score of 3.4, followed by Pennsylvania with a score of 4.0.

According to the survey, online dating partners were least honest about their relationship status, followed by age and real-life appearance.
