A man spoke of his shock after his hotel booking was cancelled and the price more than doubled following Oasis announcement of their reunion tour.

Frank Southall from Worcester said he had booked a room in a Cardiff hotel for two nights ahead of the band’s 2025 concerts.

But 12 hours after receiving the confirmation email, he received another one from Booking.com, cancelling his reservation due to a “technical error” and stating that a room could “no longer be guaranteed”.

A Booking.com spokesperson said that if the company became aware of “practices that violate our terms and conditions,” it would take action.

Mr Southall said he was in a “limbo” period while he tried to sort out his accommodation.

“Easyhotel replied that they could not process the booking (but) I have a confirmation and a booking number from Booking.com, so I could realistically turn up.”

The 52-year-old paid £236 and isn’t sure yet whether he’s fully booked or not, but the price for the same room has since risen to £597.

“I realize it’s a supply and demand issue, but if you get ahead of the game before they raise their prices (I don’t understand that).

“I see that they benefit from it, but it is a contract – they should not be able to terminate it,” he said.

The band will kick off their comeback tour on July 4 and 5 at the city’s Principality Stadium. Tickets go on sale on Saturday.

Booking.com said it has strict policies and codes of conduct in place and will not hesitate to ask its partners to “act fairly and honour bookings” confirmed to their “mutual customers” or “offer viable alternatives”.

It continued: “In cases where a property is unable to honour a reservation, our next step will be to intervene on behalf of the customer.”
