Hotel housekeeper celebrates 20th anniversary at the Oxford Hotel

A housekeeper at an Iffley hotel said she “loves” her job on the occasion of her 20th anniversary.

Rosemary Floyd, 63, has been keeping the bedrooms of Hawkwell House sparkling clean for two decades.

She said: “I love it here. The people are wonderful and I really enjoy the work. All my colleagues are friends and we are all proud of our work.”

Now Mrs Floyd, who lives in Littlemore, Oxford, is encouraging others to choose a career in the hotel industry.

She said: “It’s about hard work and kindness. Everyone at the hotel contributes to welcoming and looking after our guests.”

“The housekeeping team makes sure that the rooms are nice for our guests and they thank us regularly, which makes all the work worthwhile.”

She has seen a lot of changes since she came to the hotel in 2004, when a pint of milk cost 35p, lager was £2.34 and Facebook had just been launched.

The hotel was extensively renovated a few years ago.

She said: “When I came in, we had sheets and blankets in the rooms and now we have nice big duvets.”

The hotel is looking for employees for a variety of positions, including front office manager, food and drink manager, wedding and event coordinator, and conference and banquet team leader.

Ms Floyd continued: “I enjoy every day, for me it’s all about the people. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new opportunity.”

“The great thing about the hotel is that people can work shifts, so it’s suitable for all kinds of people.

“The hotel offers a lot of training and support and the most important thing is to enjoy helping others.”

She added: “When I started at Hawkwell House Hotel, I didn’t think I would still be here 20 years later, but I still enjoy coming to work every day and that’s the main thing.”

“I will miss it a lot when I retire in a few years.”

To celebrate her 20 years of service, her colleagues surprised her with lunch and gifts.

Anuj Sagar, General Manager at Hawkwell House, said: “Congratulations and thanks to Rosemary for 20 years of fantastic service.”

“Housekeepers are often the unsung heroes of a hotel and an essential part of the team. We are fortunate to have such a strong group.

“There are many career opportunities in the hotel industry and Rosemary’s journey is a fantastic example of how rewarding working at Hawkwell House is.

“We are currently hiring and encourage everyone to learn more on our website.”
