How would you rate the remake of THE CROW, which is now in theaters?

1994s The Crow starring the late Brandon Lee is a cult classic and a film that many of its fans have long said should be left alone and never made into a film again.

But that’s not how things usually work in Hollywood, and this weekend a remake of James O’Barr’s 1989 comic book series hit theaters.

The first trailer did not receive a positive response on the Internet. Many criticized the new look of the main character and the obvious differences between this film and its predecessor. The criticism embargo was only lifted when The Crow has already been released in theaters and, as of this writing, is sitting at a paltry 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, the opening weekend box office outlook is also pretty, er, squeaky.

Interesting, The CrowThe audience score (now called the “popcorn meter”) seems to tell a different story. At 66%, it suggests there may be a further divide between fans and critics when it comes to whether this film is actually any good.

With that in mind, it’s time for you, the readers of ComicBookMovie.com, to vote and rate The Crow. This is also your chance to dive into spoilers in the comments section and discuss the biggest moments and reveals.

Will there be a sequel to The Crow– Director Rupert Sanders recently addressed this possibility in an interview with Variety.

“If there is a sequel in the future, maybe in 30 years, they have to find a way to get out of prison, because the question ‘what happens next?’ is certainly no longer the same.” he said about the final ending of the remake. “That would be cheap and not the mood we were in when we made the film. Bill and I probably watched five endings together, I probably cut out 20 endings.”

“I think the editing and the cinematic language, not the words, are what really sets the film apart. So the ending is the result of a lot of experimentation: How do we find that emotional ending? The people you love throughout the film aren’t allowed to be together again, but you want to feel like it was all worth it.”

Sanders added: “It’s the right ending for the film and there’s something very decisive about our ending. It’s not predictable, it’s not ‘happy’ and it’s certainly not like waiting for the sequel!”

Bill Skarsgård takes on the iconic role of THE CROW in this modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr. Soulmates Eric (Skarsgård) and Shelly (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of their dark past catch up with them. When Eric is given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, he sets out to exact merciless vengeance on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to right the wrongs.

The Crow Rupert Sanders directs from a screenplay by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider. Producers include Edward R. Pressman, Samuel Hadida, Victor Hadida, John Jencks and Molly Hassell.

Bill Skarsgård plays Eric and FKA Twigs plays Shelly, his star-crossed love interest. The supporting cast includes Danny Huston, Isabella Wei, Laura Birn and Sami Bouajila.

The Crow is now in cinemas.
