“I became a flight attendant at 57 – and will still do it at 95”

After training as a primary school teacher, Kulin became an entrepreneur and managed four companies, most recently specialising in weddings across Europe.

But while traveling on a family vacation to Orlando with Virgin Atlantic in 2022, Kulin casually mentioned to a member of the cabin crew that she had always wanted to do their job.

“Why don’t you?” they replied.

“I said, ‘Not at my age,’ but they really encouraged me. I spent the rest of the holidays telling my kids that this would be my next job,” Kulin says. “I could see them rolling their eyes.”

“But it was a seed – when we came back, I signed up without telling a soul.”

Kulin now spends most of her working time at 30,000 feet as a member of Virgin Atlantic’s cabin crew. Between flights, Kulin can spend a night or two in one of the 32 destinations Virgin Atlantic flies to, giving her time to explore.

“A few weeks ago I was in Delhi on a Friday and got a guided tour of a traditional market. I was also able to take my son with me and we went to see the Taj Mahal, which was at the top of his wish list.

“I love travelling to the Caribbean because I can sit on the beach and read a nice book. But I also often see what the other cabin crew members are up to – it’s a very sociable job.”
