Ice-T mocks troll who claims Law & Order: SVU is becoming “woke”

Ice-T is making headlines again with his sharp sayings on the Internet. This time because he dismissed an online troll’s complaint about “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

The “SVU” star, who has played Detective Odafin Tutuola on the show for nearly 25 years, was apparently not happy when a conservative X-user responded to a month-old post by the rapper and actor on set, writing, “Have they written SVU back to normal yet? It was starting to get woke.”

“What the f*** is woke? lol like I give a shit,” Ice-T, who will reprise his role in the show’s upcoming 26th season, wrote in response, earning praise from fans.

The accusation that the NBC crime drama is “woke” reflects countless complaints from conservative observers about the media and its use of storylines and characters that they say increasingly emphasize diversity.

The series, whose 25 seasons have focused on police investigations into sex crimes, has been running since 1999. Conservative fans took to fan forums and YouTube videos in January to tear apart a particular episode, calling the portrayal of a crime victim’s nuanced reaction to the justice system and its bias “absurd.”

But the terse response from the actor, who has appeared in more than 450 episodes of the “Law & Order” universe, is another example of the backlash against an “anti-woke crusade” by right-wing politicians.

“Woke is anything the right doesn’t like,” one X user told Ice-T.
