IHG celebrates 15th anniversary of Army Hotel Program

IHG HOTELS & RESORTS celebrated the 15th anniversary of the IHG Army Hotels military housing program, part of the U.S. Army’s initiative to privatize military housing. The program provides military guests, veterans and their families with on-base accommodations under the Holiday Inn Express, Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites brands.

In a statement, IHG said that since its founding in 2009, Army Hotels have hosted more than 40 million room nights at 40 bases in the United States and Puerto Rico, reinvesting $43 out of every 100 in improving facilities and services.

“It is incredible to see the development of our first-of-its-kind military housing program and our team’s commitment to its success,” said Chuck Sourbeer, Vice President of Hotel Operations, IHG Army Hotels. “TThe program is a testament to our commitment to those who serve, with quality accommodations that meet the high standards our guests expect from IHG brands. We are proud of the impact we have had on our guests and communities and the relationship we have built with the Army, and we look forward to the future of our hospitality journey.”

Recently, IHG Army Hotels completed the modernization of the Holiday Inn Express Magnolia House & Cypress Inn in Fort Johnson, Louisiana – its first brand in 2010 – and transferred a historic hotel on the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico to the Historia Collection, which showcases historic buildings on the base that have been converted into hotels.

The Army Hotel’s staff is primarily comprised of former U.S. Army Lodging employees, military personnel, spouses and veterans, creating a team that is well versed in military life, the statement said. Guests will earn IHG One Rewards points toward future stays at any IHG hotel worldwide, with 6.8 billion points already awarded.

IHG Army Hotels donates more than $300,000 annually to sponsorships and community service projects, including the U.S. Army’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation program. The company also supports charities such as the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Fisher House Network. In addition, the company offers a summer internship program for the children of hotel employees, providing them with hands-on work experience.

IHG, based in Berkshire, England, recently reported a three percent increase in global RevPAR for the first half of 2024, with growth in the second quarter coming in at 3.2 percent, mainly due to the recovery in the US markets.
