“I’m definitely an outsider” – Upstate Congressman Brandon Williams on power and politics

Upstate Republican Congressman Brandon Williams, who represents New York’s 22nd District, was a guest on CBS6’s “Power and Politics” at the U.S. Capitol. Williams, who lives in Central New York, is a former nuclear submarine officer and founder of a software company.

“I had no political experience before this race, so I had no expectations,” Williams said. “Imagine a nuclear submarine and then think about the opposite. I spent 500 days at sea in a nuclear submarine. That’s a very special environment, and Congress is very different. You always learn the most by comparison.”

Williams is in the second year of his two-year term.

“I’m definitely an outsider, that’s how I feel every day,” Williams says. “Honestly, I hope it stays that way. I never intended to have a career in politics, and I feel like I’m here to serve the country.”

Williams spoke about:
– He brings his experience from the technology industry to the federal government
-That New York is “the worst place in America for solar energy”
-Facilitating Micron’s market entry in upstate New York
-The Interstate 81 viaduct project
-Support of Ukraine in the war against Russia
-Border policy in response to the impact of the Biden administration’s executive orders and legislation in Congress and the Senate that has not advanced
