Carolyn Edwards, known to most as “CC,” passed away on June 13, 2024 at the age of 71 in her New Castle home with her loving husband and her puppy, Callie, snuggled next to her. CC navigated her battle with cancer with courage and acceptance. Even in her most difficult times, CC continued to bring friends and family together with love and humor.

Carolyn Clark was born on March 2, 1953, at Eglin AFB in Niceville, Florida, to an Air Force serviceman. She spent her early years in Guam, New Mexico, before moving to California. At Hueneme High School in Oxnard, California, she met her future husband, HE (Harold Eugene Edwards). After graduating from California State University, Northridge in 1975 with degrees in physical therapy, they traveled the United States in a converted school bus, living a vagabond life. They arrived in the Roaring Fork Valley in 1978 and never left.

CC started out as a physical therapist at the hospital. To pursue her daytime passions of skiing, hiking, tennis and gardening, she worked in the evenings at various restaurants. There she made long-lasting friends, particularly at LaCocina, The Steak Pit and Russetts. Regular customers will remember CC for her famous jokes and great personality.

With her charm and wit, she could easily start a conversation on a chairlift, tennis court, or while waiting tables. Her warm smile, the twinkle in her eyes, and her easy laugh were infectious. CC touched many people throughout her life with her caring, sweet, and compassionate nature. She cared for her mother, her Aunt Apple, and her mother-in-law during their final years. It was never about herself; she always put others first. CC made you feel like a good friend. She knew how to put a positive spin on life with sayings like, “I dance on the happy side of the coin” and “When things aren’t going quite right, change your perspective.”

When asked how many days she skis each year, CC said she didn’t know. It didn’t matter. More important was planning how to get friends together to ski the best snow in Aspen, Highlands, Snowmass, and Sunlight. CC rode with the Chicks on Sticks and Powder SLUTS (looking for easy, untouched terrain). She also took many ski trips with her ski buddies, especially in the fall before Aspen opened and the spring after it closed, to A-Basin, Loveland, Utah, and California. She also loved skiing in British Columbia, Canada, at Red Mountain, and Revelstoke, as well as several memorable heliski trips. Summers were spent traveling and camping with HE, and hiking among wildflowers. Tennis was her other passion, and she played several days a week, including in team competitions.

CC was always known as Carolyn to her surviving husband, her brother Bill Clark, his wife Connie and their daughter Jennifer of Centerville, Virginia and her brother Jim Clark, his wife Christine and their son Arthur of Santa Clara, California. Please consider planting flowers in CC’s memory or making a new friend with a silly joke.
