In Review: Doctor Who: The Fifteenth Doctor #2

The Fifteenth Doctor and the Cybermen clash, while Ruby faces an insect threat.

Summary: The Fifteenth Doctor and the Cybermen clash, while Ruby faces an insectoid threat. But is everything as it seems? And what is the true nature of the terrifying evil that is ready to reveal itself…

The story

Searching for the source of a 19th century cyber technology, the Doctor and Ruby find themselves in a shopping mall on distant future Earth, which most of humanity has abandoned. Exploring the mall, they found a small group of people who remained behind. But as they went for a walk, the Doctor and Ruby became separated. The Doctor finds a little girl whose fears seem to be manifesting. Meanwhile, in another part of the mall, Ruby finds a race of scavengers called the Cancaranka, who come to dying worlds to feed. While all this is happening, the mysterious person orchestrating the events is feeding on the fears of the mall shoppers, hoping to feed on the Doctor as well. Unfortunately for her, the Doctor has seen through her plan and is trying to push her into the light.

The artwork

Marco Lesko does a solid job with the illustration, producing some truly terrifying Cybermen. I liked the scratchy art style of the main villain, as it makes him look as insane as his character seems to be. We also get a great cover by Roberta Ingranata.

In total

Dan Watters does a fantastic job of picking up where his last issue left off. The introduction of the villain who narrates the plot as we see one of the mall shoppers face his worst fears sets things up brilliantly and shows us just how big a threat the Doctor is. I also love how they reveal themselves to the Doctor when he confronts them.

Overall. A fantastic issue that seems to be setting up something quite sinister. I can’t wait for the next issue.
