The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and other banks were the target of a major cyberattack on Wednesday, causing widespread disruption to the country’s banking system, Iran International reported.

According to reports, all computer systems of Iranian banks were paralyzed after the cyberattack. According to initial estimates, this could be one of the largest cyberattacks on Iranian state infrastructure.
A signal to Iran?
The cyber attack is most likely a signal from Western countries to Iran. It is intended to show how Iran can be harmed.
The last cyberattack on Iranian institutions occurred last December, when a significant portion of the country’s gas stations were damaged in a cyberattack that Iranians blamed on Israel and the United States.
Israeli media later reported that a note had been pasted on ATMs in Iran, reading: “Dear customers, it is impossible to withdraw money from this ATM. The reason for this is that the entire state budget and all of Iran’s resources have been used for the wars and the corrupt religious leaders of the Islamic Republic regime. We are very sorry.”
