Isolated rain and downpours until Friday

Here is your forecast for Thursday evening, August 15, 2024, from the Minnesota Weather Service and meteorologist Matt Serwe.

A slow-moving low pressure system will be over Minnesota and Wisconsin for the next few days. As it rotates, scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will move across both states from time to time. There could be some downpours Thursday night, but there was very little lightning and rain. They would last 15 to 30 minutes at most and then move on. On Friday, the chance of thunderstorms or downpours is even lower. However, you should expect at least some light rain at some point. Beneath the clouds, temperatures will stay between 70 and 75 degrees Friday afternoon.

This low is slowing down a bit in newer forecasts. That could mean clouds and a few light showers linger through Saturday morning. I’m still expecting more sun and highs in the 80s in the afternoon. As the low moves out and the wind shifts north, wildfire smoke is possible. If you’re using this weekend for one last family trip north, the air quality there could be impacted by smoke. I’ll update this part of the forecast throughout the weekend and let you know when it becomes unhealthy. The weather is quiet early next week. Expect highs in the 80s and several dry days.
