Jason Biggs and the judges talk about Netflix’s Blue Ribbon Baking Championship

From iconic hosts to legendary judges, Netflix’s Blue Ribbon Baking Championship delivers a sweet treat as Blue Ribbon-winning bakers from state fairs across the country compete for a chance to win $100,000.

“Busy and busy” American Pie star Jason Biggs is getting his competition show hosting shoes out to host the Blue Ribbon Baking Championship, saying he approached it with an open mind and even learned a thing or two.

“The stakes were high, so it was very intense at times, but overall it was a really nice set in terms of the energy of the contestants and the energy of the judges,” said Biggs. “It was really fun and I learned a lot as well. People generally look at me and think, ‘What more could I learn?’ And I realize I went into it with an open mind.”

Judge and former White House pastry chef Bill Yosses brings his knowledge to the show and reveals what his first criteria were when judging the bakers’ dishes.

“This show had a wide variety of people and creativity was huge. So they made amazing desserts,” said Chef Yosses. “Taste was still my criteria, the first criteria. And we had some really delicious cakes.”

Award-winning master baker Bryan Ford, who also served as a judge alongside chefs Yosses and Sandra Lee, is known for bringing Latin American flair to his dishes, so it’s no surprise that he also required contestants to incorporate their own backgrounds into their creations.

“I’m always looking for bakers who incorporate some of their heritage, their background or their family history into what they bake because I think that’s just a natural part of being a baker,” Ford said. “You always want to bake for your friends, family or community and you most likely learned it from a grandmother or mother or father or someone in the family. So it’s kind of a natural thing that happens, but when we see it come to light on the show, it’s really powerful.”
