According to court documents, Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from her husband Ben Affleck after just over two years of marriage.
Rumors have been circulating for several weeks that Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, are planning a split. The couple were together for a few years in the early 2000s, but called off their first engagement in 2004.
Court documents reviewed by Newsweek show that Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, August 20 – the second anniversary of her and Affleck’s second wedding ceremony in Georgia in the summer of 2022. The couple had married in Las Vegas in July 2022.

For months, rumors circulated that the couple, once known as “Bennifer,” were planning to split up. Reports that the two were living apart first surfaced in the spring. In May, Lopez canceled her summer tour. This is me … liveand said at the time that she wanted to be “with her children, family and close friends”.
“Please know that I would not do this if I didn’t feel it was absolutely necessary,” Lopez said in a statement. “I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time…”
The couple put their 12-bedroom, 38,000-square-foot estate in Beverly Hills, California, up for sale in July. According to a report by CNN, the home was put on the market for $68 million. Lopez and Affleck purchased the property in 2023 for just over $60.8 million.

The two appeared to be on good terms despite the breakup rumors. Lopez was spotted at the high school graduation ceremony of Affleck’s eldest child, 18-year-old Violet, on May 30, according to photos obtained by Affleck. People Magazine. A few days earlier, on May 17, the two celebs were seen supporting Affleck’s middle child Fin in a school play.
Lopez was also seen visiting Affleck’s rental home in Brentwood, California, to celebrate his birthday on August 15, according to Page Six.
Affleck has three children with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner: 18-year-old Violet, 15-year-old Fin and 12-year-old Samuel. Lopez also has 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with her ex-husband Marc Anthony.
Vanessa Lloyd Platt, owner of London-based matrimonial law firm Lloyd Platt & Co., previously said Newsweek that Lopez’s fortune could be “at risk” if her relationship with Affleck ended in divorce.
“The relationship between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck has always been a bit volatile,” Platt said this month, noting that the couple reportedly had a prenuptial agreement drawn up when they were together in the early 2000s, but that the agreement would likely no longer be valid today.
“This means that Jennifer Lopez’s fortune, estimated at around $400 million while Ben Affleck’s is $150 million, may be at risk,” Platt added.
