Representative Jerry Nadler promised this week that rich white men would “certainly” be taxed more heavily if Democrats took back Congress.
The longtime New York congressman made this apparently serious promise to comedian Lionel McGloin, who posed as a flighty social media influencer at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where he was accredited as a reporter by The Free Press newspaper.
“Can we please – this would be so stupid – put a higher tax rate on rich white men this year?” McGloin asked a seated Nadler during an interview posted on YouTube on Friday.
“If Congress is Democratic, we certainly will,” Nadler said.
McGloin responded enthusiastically, “Yeah, baby, tax those rich old white people!”
Later in the video, McGloin happened to meet New York Attorney General Letitia James.
“Are you concerned that Donald Trump will use the justice system as a weapon if he comes to power?” McGloin asked. “To prosecute his political opponents”
James – who, critics note, ran for office on a campaign to prosecute Trump and then did just that – responded without irony.
“Exactly,” she said.
McGloin ended the interview by giving James a kiss on the cheek.
The 20-minute clip includes McGloin’s interviews with former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, director JJ Abrams and NewsNation host Chris Cuomo – who told him his favorite pick-up line is “I’ll pay.”
