Jet2 flight has to make emergency landing after Boeing 757 aircraft defect

A Jet2 flight from Spain had to make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport on Wednesday after a “fault” was reported on the Boeing 757-200.

Flight LS810 from Malaga to Manchester landed yesterday afternoon (14 August) with priority at the northern aviation hub.

According to Aviation Source, cabin crew issued the emergency code 7700 as the three-hour flight began its descent over Manchester.

A squawk 7700 code indicates that there is an emergency on board the aircraft.

In this case, the “fault” was allegedly due to a hydraulic problem.

After landing, the aircraft was met on the runway by fire engines and towed to the stand where the passengers could disembark.

A passenger on board told Manchester Evening News: “The pilot remained extremely calm and told us that there was a technical problem and that he had requested external assistance upon our arrival at the airport. We should not be alarmed if we saw flashing lights.”

A Jet2 spokesperson said: “Flight LS810 followed standard procedure and requested a priority landing at Manchester Airport due to a reported incident. The aircraft landed safely and taxied to the passenger disembarkation point as normal.”

It is not the first emergency landing of the summer season.

Last Tuesday, a runway at Japan’s Narita Airport was closed after an American cargo plane made an emergency landing.

Authorities said the runway at the airport in Chiba Prefecture was closed after an Atlas Air Boeing 747 was forced to make an emergency landing due to a problem with its hydraulic system.

“The seven crew members of the Boeing 747 were not injured, but burst tires and damaged wheels were found,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Transport.

An Aer Lingus flight from Ireland to Spain also had to make an emergency landing in France after a heated fight between a couple in the air turned violent in July.

Flight EI738 from Dublin to Mallorca had to be diverted to Nantes airport on 26 July, one hour into the 2 hour and 45 minute journey.

When the cabin crew failed to de-escalate the physical altercation, they issued the emergency code 7700 to indicate a serious problem on board the aircraft.
