Officers have arrested two male teenagers from Joliet, one of whom is accused of robbing two teenagers in a far west neighborhood and shooting at the car of one of the victims, police said.
Officers responded to the armed robbery around 11 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Silver Leaf Drive, Joliet Police Sergeant Dwayne English said. Officers learned that two 17-year-old girls were in a Pontiac Grand Am when they were robbed.
Following an investigation into the incident, two 17-year-old male suspects were arrested.
“All suspects allegedly involved in this incident are in custody and facing charges,” English said.
One of the two suspects approached the passenger side of the vehicle, pointed a gun at the passenger’s neck and demanded her purse, English said.
After the suspect grabbed the handbag, he then snatched the car keys from the driver.
However, the driver got into a fight with the suspect and took the keys back from him.
During the altercation, the suspect fired his pistol and a bullet hit the driver’s door of the vehicle.
Both 17-year-old victims pursued the suspect as he fled through the neighborhood. The suspect was last seen near a residence in the 500 block of Silver Falls Street.
The suspect was not found in the apartment by officers from the Joliet Police Department’s special unit.
A curfew was imposed on the area and on Troy Heritage School. The curfew was lifted at 1:35 p.m.
