Karnataka: BJP accuses Congress of trying to override law and order

Opposition BJP-JD(S) leaders on Monday intensified their attacks on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Congress party, saying they would approach the Governor and recommend him to curb President’s rule in Karnataka on the grounds that the Congress government was endangering law and order in the state.

“Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar himself has incited Congress MPs to throw stones and burn tyres to protest against the Governor’s decision to grant permission to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife to investigate alleged irregularities in land allocation by MUDA. This is a clear case of the government trying to override law and order,” alleged Leader of Opposition in Parliament R Ashok.

Addressing the coalition leaders during their protest rally in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Vidhana Soudha grounds demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister, Mr Ashok alleged that the Congress leaders forced the police to remain inactive and support the protest of their workers. Referring to the legal action initiated by the Chief Minister against the Governor’s sanctions, he said the BJP too would take up a legal action against the Congress government.

Referring to the resignation of SC/ST Social Welfare Minister and Dalit leader B. Nagendra over irregularities in the Valmiki ST Development Corporation, Mr. Ashok accused the Congress government of pursuing a dual policy of cracking down on Dalits but protecting the Chief Minister despite allegations of irregularities against him too.

Addressing the protesters, BJP state president BY Vijayendra demanded Mr Siddaramaiah’s resignation, saying his “socialist face” had disappeared.

BJP asks DG&IGP to book Congress MLC

Taking exception to Congress MP Ivan D’Souza’s alleged comments that Congress would oust Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot in the wake of developments in Bangladesh, the BJP has demanded that the DG&IGP take action against the MP.

“Such remarks by the Congress MP show the mindset of the Congress and its plans to take the country towards anarchy,” alleged BJP state president BY Vijayendra, demanding tough action against him. BJP MLC CT Ravi asked Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge to respond to Mr D’Souza’s remarks.
