LA Chargers players escape stuck elevator in Dallas hotel

Several Los Angeles Chargers players and members of the team’s traveling party had to crawl through a ceiling panel to escape a stuck hotel elevator in downtown Dallas on Friday.

The team posted on social media that the Dallas Fire Department helped people through the ceiling slab into a neighboring elevator around 7:30 p.m. Friday. According to WFAA, the incident occurred at the Westin on Main Street.

Jason Evans, a spokesman for Dallas Fire-Rescue, said he could not confirm who was trapped in the elevator of a hotel at 1201 Main Street.

Firefighters were dispatched around 7:45 p.m., around the time a 911 call came in about 15 people being trapped in an elevator at the hotel, a statement said.

An elevator technician tried unsuccessfully to get the elevator running again. The fire department’s search and rescue team had to be called in to rescue the occupants, Evans said.

The elevator car was stuck in a “blind shaft” between the 3rd and 15th floors. Evans said the search and rescue team used a working car to get the passengers out of the trap. Everyone was rescued from the elevator around 10:30 p.m., he said.

The Chargers’ game against the Cowboys is scheduled for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at AT&T Stadium, the last preseason game for both teams.

“The Los Angeles Chargers thank Dallas Fire-Rescue for their quick response, professionalism and significant efforts to ensure the safety of everyone,” the team said.
