The Los Angeles Lakers have signed a top Summer League player – at least for training camp.

In a deal that was reported back in June, LA has officially announced the signing of former Xavier guard Quincy Olivari via its official X account. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports that the 6-foot-3 rising pro signed an Exhibit 10 training camp contract.

All 15 spots on Los Angeles’ standard roster and all three open spots on the team’s two-way roster are currently filled. It seems likely that Olivari and fellow Exhibit 10 signees Kylor Kelley and Sean East will compete for affiliate contracts with the Lakers’ G-League affiliate team, the South Bay Lakers. However, it’s conceivable that if one of these new additions truly impresses new head coach JJ Redick and/or longtime team president and general manager Rob Pelinka during the team’s training camp, they could replace any of current two-way signees Blake Hinson, Armel Traore and Colin Castleton.

Olivari earned All-CUSA honors twice during his four-year tenure at Rice before transferring to Xavier for his final season. In the 2023-24 season, Olivari averaged 19.1 points on .425/.409/.814 shooting, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals for the Musketeers (16/18).

In five games with the Lakers during the Las Vegas Summer League and California Classic, Olivari averaged 5.8 points on a mediocre .286/.267/1.000 slash line, 1.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.5 blocks in just 14.9 minutes per night. His college performance clearly has to be the main reason Los Angeles wants to keep him through the fall.

By agreeing to a potential Exhibit 10 deal with Los Angeles, Olivari could be eligible for a bonus worth up to $77,500 – on the condition that he joins the South Bay Lakers as an affiliate player for at least 60 days after his theoretical release by the Lakers.

In total, the Lakers have now signed 20 players ahead of training camp, but the club’s standard roster could likely benefit from some transfers, particularly to increase the depth of the team’s frontcourt and wing defense.
