Las Cruces Comic Con 2024, Roller Derby and Bark at the Park

Have you been to a baseball game this season? The El Paso Chihuahuas continue to play home games. One of the most fun games is the Bark at the Park on Sundays, sponsored by GECU, where guests can bring their pets and kids can circle the bases afterward.

For anyone who wants to see some female agitators, there is roller derby in the northeast this weekend. Two exciting home matches will take place on the ice rink.

In Las Cruces, organizers of the Las Cruces Comic Con are preparing for their biggest event yet, which will feature numerous celebrity guests and interesting panel discussions on Saturday and Sunday, August 17 and 18.

Las Cruces Comic Con 2024 will take place on August 17 and 18

Las Cruces Comic Con, featuring panels, celebrity guests, entertainment and interactive exhibits, will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 17-18, at the Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 E. University Ave., Las Cruces.

Celebrity appearances: Leland Chapman (Dog, the bounty hunter), James Urbaniak (Venture Bros & Oppenheimer)Noelle Hannibal (Star Trek), Chris Guerrero (One Piece and Overlord)Melanie Kohn (peanuts), Kevin Duhaney (Power Rangers Dino Thunder), Jeff Parazzo (Power Rangers Dino Thunder), Tom Cook (classic illustrator of the 1980s), and Mike Toth (Long-time Disney artist), among others. Fans have the opportunity to interact with their favorite stars at autograph sessions and photo opportunities.

Roller Derby on Saturday in northeast El Paso

The El Paso Roller Derby continues this weekend with bouts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, at the Nation Tobins Sports Center, 8815 Railroad Dr. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Games are drink-only and only for those 21 and older. No glass containers are allowed. Bring a chair to guarantee a seat in the rink.

Bark in the park at the El Paso Chihuahuas

The El Paso Chihuahuas’ remaining games at Southwest University Park are scheduled for this week, with extra fun coming at Bark at the Park, where you can bring your dogs on leashes, on Sunday, August 18 at 6:05 p.m.

All visitors entering with their four-legged companion must show proof of the following current vaccinations: rabies, distemper, leprosy, parvovirus, and bordetella. There are no exceptions. Failure to comply will result in denial of entry to Southwest University Park. Tickets are available at the stadium box office and at epchihuahuas.com.

Meeting of the Mesilla Valley Jazz & Blue Society

The Mesilla Valley Jazz & Blues Society presents the Wrong 7 Jazz Quartet, comprised of students from New Mexico State University, at its monthly meeting on Sunday, August 18, at Alma D’Arte Charter High School, 402 W Court Ave., Las Cruces.

El Paso artist sells clay figures at Michael’s

El Paso artist Mercedes Alvarado, owner of Sweet Rose Clay Co, will be selling her handmade clay jewelry on Saturday, August 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Michael’s, 1313 George Dieter Drive Ste C. Alvarado is selling her polymer clay figurines and earrings on MakerPlace by Michaels, a new online marketplace dedicated to supporting artists who create handmade jewelry.

Photo exhibition at the Nova Gallery

Nova Gallery will host a new photography exhibit called “Indecisive Moments.” The exhibit is by El Paso photographers Tim Holt and Abby Akachi and opens at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 26 at 3803 Frutas Ave.

Tim Holt will present his series “Blurred,” which explores the relationship between time and memory. Akachi is a rising star known for dynamic street photography.
