Law and order have collapsed in the state, development hampered, says BJP spokesman

BJP state spokesperson and former MLC Ashwath Narayan Gowda said here on Sunday that law and order in Karnataka has reached a new low under Congress rule and development has taken a back seat.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Gowda said that while it is common for any ruling party to face anti-incumbency factor after four to five years in power, the Congress government in the state was facing this anti-incumbency factor just four months after coming to power.

Citing some cases, the BJP spokesperson said that the number of atrocities against women, including rape, has increased and that every time such an incident is reported, Home Minister G. Parameshwara dismisses it in a flippant manner.

This, said Ashwanth Narayan, encourages those who commit such heinous crimes and hence the Home Minister has no moral right to continue with it. Mr Parameshwara should tender his resignation immediately, he added.

On development issues, he said that even MPs from the ruling party were complaining about lack of funds for the development of their constituency. This shows that Mr Siddaramaiah has no control over the party or his MPs and that even governance and development are suffering.

The BJP spokesperson took a sharp shot at the Congress, saying no one in the state knows who the current Public Works Minister (Satish Jarkiholi) is because no major or minor construction work has been started for over a year.

“If there had been funds for development or the Minister of Public Works had done the groundbreaking for any charitable projects, people would have known about him,” said Ashwath Narayan Gowda.

While some key ministers are making statements defending Mr Siddaramaiah, there is no sign of any development on the ground, he added.
