It’s a bittersweet time for fans of the Netflix hit The Umbrella Academy – the Hargreeves family says their final goodbyes in the final season of the series.
Season 4 of the superhero series was released on Netflix on August 8th. The series is about a group of adopted siblings with superhuman abilities and has gained a loyal following since it first aired in 2019. The main roles are Elliot Page as Viktor/the white violin, Tom Hopper as Luther/Spaceboy, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison/the rumor, Justin H. Min as Ben/the horror, Robert Sheehan as Klaus/the séance, Aidan Gallagher as Five/the boy and David Castañeda as Diego/the octopus.
Together, the Hargreeves siblings have traveled for several decades, averted apocalypses and survived countless near-death experiences. And it all began with a comic series of the same name by My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way.

Way created the comics illustrated by Gabriel Bá in 2007. Initially a limited series of six issues, The Umbrella Academy was eventually expanded into several series for Dark Horse Comics (and conveniently collected into several volumes). The Umbrella Academy also inspired the spin-off series Stories from the Umbrella Academyas well as short stories within the same universe.
“I have never seen anything like this in comics The Umbrella Academy”, said Way Rolling Stone of comic books in 2019. “I’ve seen a lot of things that were committed to a continuity that’s been around for 50 years and stories that have lasted that long, but I haven’t seen anything that threw the reader in at the deep end, but instead swept them right along with the good stuff.”
