Leighty’s NXT Level Up review 8/23/24

-Thanks to everyone who has read my retro reviews. I have three more lined up that will be coming out in the next week or so. The next show I’m tackling is Wrestle War 90 and that’s a first for me because I’ll be reviewing a show for the second time when I do WrestleMania VI. I really want to see the show again and my original review is from back when I started at 411 in 2008. Let’s get started!

-Announcer team: Blake Howard and Byron Saxton
-Taken at: WWE Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, FL

Jazmyn Nyx (with Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley) against Dani Palmer

– Welcome back Dani Palmer, who was out of action for nearly 10 months. It’s wonderful to see her again as she’s had bilateral hip surgery. Lockup and Nyx backs Palmer into the corner. Clean break as we hear a Dani chant. Palmer does a handstand to escape a leg hold and gets a roll-up for two. Roll-up for two! Palmer floats into the corner and then gets a headscissors in the opposite corner. Shotgun dropkick by Palmer. Monkey flip out of the corner gets two! Henley jumps on the apron to distract and that gives Nyx the advantage. Nyx chokes with her boot in the corner and gets a PERFECT-PLEX for two. So not Perfect after all? She tries a slam but Palmer gets a small package for two. Palmer gets pushed away and Nyx kicks but he doesn’t really connect, making the whole thing look a little rocky. Headscissors by Nyx, but Palmer maneuvers and gets a pin attempt for two. Palmer with another shotgun dropkick and then a handstand into a kick in the corner for two. Nyx hooks the ropes to block a roll-up attempt and then hits the Nyx Kick for the pin at 4:11 (heh).

Winner: Jazmyn Nyx by pin at 4:11
-The match was actually secondary to Palmer being back in the ring. She actually dominated most of the offense before getting caught and losing. A few difficult moments, but it’s been almost 10 months for Palmer. *1/4

-Dupont and Igwe get some promo time backstage.

-No Mercy commercial!

-Dani Palmer is backstage talking about how things have changed since she last appeared in the ring. “This daredevil is just getting started.”

Luca Crusifino and Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo (with Adrianna Rizzo) against Tyriek Igwe and Tyson Dupont

-Luca and Tyriek start and it’s a feeling out process. Tyriek hooks an armbar and works it a bit as Byron runs through the deep end in NXT’s tag division. Tyson gets the blind tag and we get a double offense for two. Luca escapes a slam and tags in Stacks. They get their own double offense and then Stacks lands a dropkick. Tyson shakes off the butters and gets his own dropkick. Tyriek tags back in as he comes off the middle rope and attacks the arm. Stacks is sent to the ropes and takes an elbow strike. Splash in the corner from Tyriek. Stacks jumps out of the opposite corner but lands on his repaired knee. Tyson and Tyriek immediately go after the knee, which is the smartest thing to do. I should note that we have a pretty subdued crowd tonight. Luca gets the (hot?) tag and lands a double shoulder attack. Clothesline sends Tyriek to the floor. Two count for Tyson! He tries a running elbow but Tyson catches him. TNT hits the Hart Stopper but Stacks saves. Tyriek throws Stacks away but runs into a small package for two. Stacks makes the blind tag and hits a running knee but Tyson hits Luca with an uppercut that knocks him to the cover and breaks the count. Good! Things break down with Stacks and Tyson still in the ring. Blind tag by Luca this time and they finish Tyson off with an alley opp into the Code Breaker for the pin at 6:15.

Winners: The D’Angelo family by pin at 6:15
– Standard tag match, but the crowd was subdued and not really into it. **

-Thanks for reading!
