Lenovo employee fired for peeing in New York hotel lobby demands million from company

A former Lenovo employees is suing the Chinese tech giant for $2 million after he was fired for allegedly urinating in the lobby of a New York hotel. According to court documents obtained by AFP, employee Richard Becker claims the company’s decision to fire him was unfair and discriminatory.
Richard Becker, 66, has filed a lawsuit against Lenovo’s American subsidiary, demanding at least $1.5 million in damages, claiming he was wrongfully fired for urinating in a hotel lobby.
What exactly happened
According to the lawsuit, Becker was forced to use the bathroom in a vestibule on a separate floor of his hotel near Times Square after a business lunch in February. He claims he felt uncomfortable and was unable to find a restroom in the main lobby.
“A colleague noticed Becker urinating and immediately reported him to the human resources department – apparently out of spite and malice – even though Becker’s behavior had not harmed anyone,” the lawsuit states.
Becker disclosed that he had been suffering from a chronic bladder disease since 2016 and was receiving urological treatment. The lawsuit states that his colleagues and superiors at Lenovo knew about his health condition.
“Lenovo showed no compassion, let alone compliance with the law. Instead, Becker was fired by his employer within days, following a sham human resources investigation in which he was not even interviewed,” the lawsuit states.
Lenovo has not yet made any public statement on the lawsuit.
