Makers of “Blue Eye Samurai” reveal how many seasons they have planned

The big picture

  • Blue-Eyed Samurai
The creators are planning a 3-season arc
  • By planning three seasons, the creators have the opportunity to flesh out the story and possibly develop spin-offs.
  • The production of the series is expensive and time-consuming, and season 2 is not scheduled to be released until 2026 at the earliest.

In 2023, Collider continued with Blue-Eyed Samurai Creator Michael Green And Amber Noizumi to celebrate the release of such an ambitious project and to talk about long-term plans for the Netflix series. On that occasion, the duo said they had a pretty good idea of how far the show could go. Now, however, the duo spoke to Collider again (this time together with producer Jane Wu and sound engineer Myron Nettinga) and revealed that they have a different view of the story.

During the interview, Green told our editor-in-chief Steve Weintraub that they have a different number of seasons and episodes planned now that Season 1 is out. The series creator and writer also addressed the comments he made the last time he spoke to us, joking that his enthusiasm may have been naive:

“Right now we’re planning three seasons. We have a second season in mind, one hopes there will be a third season because we definitely have plans for that. Right now we’re envisioning three. I think we talked about four once in an interview, possibly with Collider, and suddenly it became ‘the lore’! Things you say when you’re not used to being interviewed.”

The 3-season plan for Blue-Eyed Samurai Is realistic

While three seasons may not seem like much to fans, it is a realistic plan considering Netflix tends to cancel several series abruptly and few of them make it past the three or four season mark. Scheduling three seasons gives Green, Noizumi and her team time to flesh out their story and Mizu’s (Maya Erskine) main story arc. If the show gets past season 3, they can come up with additional standalone story arcs.

In addition, three seasons is a realistic plan in terms of workload and budget. The team also told Collider that due to the innovative techniques they used for Blue-Eyed Samuraithe series is quite expensive and the production takes a long time – season 2 is already in production and will not be released until 2026 at the earliest – so there is a good chance that such a large production cannot take too long. At the same time, Green and Noizumi also revealed to Collider that they have ideas for spin-offs that they have already discussed with Netflix executives. So fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
