Man shoots another man in a cemetery after he threatened to vomit next to a friend’s grave

Horrific scenes unfolded at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Colorado. According to KDVR, Ryan Trujillo-Falcon, 22, was arrested for shooting Geano Chavez, 20. According to reports, an argument broke out at the cemetery between Trujillo-Falcon, Chavez and an unidentified woman because Chavez was feeling ill.

Court documents give details of the fight. “Ryan told Geano to stop and Ryan told (investigators) that he did not see a gun in his hand. However, when Geano approached Ryan, he pointed the gun at him and said he fired one shot.” Chavez died shortly afterward and the woman was injured in the scuffle but was properly treated and released from the hospital.

In addition, Jacki Kelley, spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, addressed the incident in a statement. “These people all knew each other. They went there together to visit the grave of a person they all knew who had just had a birthday. This is the first time in my career that we have been sent to a cemetery. This was in connection with the shooting of a person who ultimately died,” Kelley explained.

“The cemetery is a place that gives people comfort. Often it is a place where you visit someone you have lost, but it is not usually a place of violence, so it is very unusual,” Kelley concluded.

In addition, Trujillo-Falcon told investigators that he did not have a legal permit to carry a concealed weapon. However, he was carrying a weapon because the friend whose grave he had visited had died in a shooting two years earlier. Cemetery officials released a statement about the tragedy.

“We are saddened by the circumstances that occurred on the night of August 17th. Such situations are highly unusual in a funeral home or cemetery. We are fully cooperating with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation as the safety of the families we serve is of the utmost importance to us.”

Trujillo-Falcon is facing charges of two counts of murder and two counts of assault. Kelley also confirmed that “the cemetery was closed. But I don’t know if the gates were closed… it was definitely after hours.”
