Marriott International opens 600th hotel in Asia-Pacific (excluding China)

Marriott International has opened the Adelaide Marriott Hotel, its 600th property in the Asia-Pacific excluding China (APEC) region.

The new hotel is Marriott International’s first property in South Australia.

The Adelaide Marriott Hotel features 285 guest rooms in a 14-storey tower, including 12 suites with views of the city skyline.

The 50-year-old Adelaide General Post Office (GPO) building serves as the facade.

The opening of the hotel coincides with the increasing trend towards domestic and intra-regional travel.

Marriott Hotels, the flagship brand of Marriott International, entered the APEC region with the opening of the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel in Sydney in 1989.

There are currently over 50 Marriott hotels in operation in the region, with approximately 40 more hotels planned to open.

Marriott International has more than 95,000 employees in managed and franchised hotels in the APEC region.

By the end of this year, nearly 10% of Marriott International’s managed employees are expected to take on new assignments within the APEC region.

Earlier this month, Marriott International entered into an alliance with Zhong An Commercial Group to launch the W Hotels brand in Hangzhou, China.
