Marty Lyons to take on ambassador role for the Jets

Marty Lyons, who represented the Jets on and off the field for more than four decades, will leave the radio booth after 22 celebrated years to serve as an ambassador for the organization, it was announced today. In his new role, the New York Sack Exchange legend will focus on engaging Jets fans at events, assist the organization with business development opportunities and continue to play a key role as the team’s commentator on the club’s digital and broadcast programs. Former Jet Anthony Becht, a first-round pick in the historic 2000 New York Draft, will assume color analyst responsibilities for the organization’s radio broadcast.

Prior to taking on this role, Lyons served as an analyst for the Jets radio broadcast since 2002. The Ring of Honor member said, “First, I want to thank the good Lord for allowing me to live my dream. 45 years with the Jets and many more to come. I want to thank all the guys in the radio booth for a great 22 years. From our producer Joe Loughran to our crew on the field, Dave Shapiro, Richie Providence and my personal spotter Mike Altieri – GREAT work. I also want to thank Bob Wischusen who is THE BEST partner in the broadcast booth. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. Bobby, you are the best. Thank you to the New York Jets fans for your support and loyalty all these years. Not just me, but the kids at the Marty Lyons Foundation. Lastly, I want to thank the New York Jets organization. Especially Woody and Chris Johnson. It will be an honor to serve the organization in this new role. To my friend Anthony Becht, I wish you the best of luck. You are in good hands. Have a great season.”

“On behalf of the entire organization and the fan base, I want to thank Marty for his continued contributions to the Jets organization,” said team president Hymie Elhai. “He is a true professional and a respected member of our community. I look forward to continuing to work with him in this new capacity while maintaining our ongoing support of the Marty Lyons Foundation as we have since 1982. I am also excited for Anthony. This opportunity allows him to expand on his already strong connection to the Jets and our fans.”

After an 11-year playing career in the NFL, Becht has remained in the game of football, working as a television commentator for college and professional games, as well as co-commentator for the Jets’ preseason games on CBS2 and the team’s digital pregame and postgame shows. Becht joins a team that includes longtime live commentator Bob Wischusen, the voice of the New York Jets, and hosts Dan Graca and Greg Buttle for the pregame, halftime and postgame shows. Becht’s first game will be August 24 against the New York Giants. Quincy Enunwa will be in the radio booth for the August 10 game against the Washington Commanders and the August 17 game at the Carolina Panthers.

Becht will continue as head coach of the St. Louis BattleHawks of the United Football League, which he coached for the past two seasons.

Anthony Becht shared, “I am forever grateful to the New York Jets organization for once again giving me the opportunity of a lifetime. This team has been an extraordinary part of my life since the day I was drafted and I hope to express gratitude with the work I do in this new role. The opportunity to work with a world-class organization and radio team led by longtime radio professional Bob Wischusen is the perfect environment for me to hit the ground running and maintain the standard that Marty Lyons has set over the past 22 years.”

“When we first came together, I didn’t really know Marty Lyons,” said Bob Wischusen. “Over the last 22 years, Marty has become not only a great broadcast partner, but more importantly, one of my closest friends. I want to thank him for that friendship, for the laughs, for the support, for making me a better commentator and a better person. I also look forward to working with Anthony Becht, who I have not only known since his playing days, but who I have grown closer to in the years since. He is a longtime friend of the organization who has repeatedly shown that he is committed to what is best for the New York Jets – and he will only strengthen our ability to make this change a positive one that benefits the fans.”

Earlier this year, the Jets announced a multi-faceted radio and streaming partnership with iHeartRadio that will see all of the club’s games air on Q104.3, New York’s classic rock station. In addition to broadcasting Jets games pre-, during- and post-game on Q104.3, fans can also hear all of the action on the iHeartRadio and Jets apps (local market only). The cross-platform partnership will leverage iHeartMedia’s diverse array of New York radio, streaming and digital platforms to promote the New York Jets brand and allows talent from both companies to appear as guests on the broadcasts.
