Marvel Comics announces the all-new VENOM and you will NEVER believe who the symbiote’s new host could be

Peter Parker, also known as the Amazing Spider-Man, was the first human to form a bond with the Venom symbiote. Eddie Brock came next, and when Marvel Comics felt the character had outlived his time, the alien suit was passed on to Mac Gargan and later to “Agent Venom” Flash Thompson.

Eddie would eventually regain his alien counterpart, but in recent years he has evolved into a true anti-hero (with the Venom symbiote having a personality all its own, similar to the one we’ve seen in the Tom Hardy films).

Now, in the wake of Venom War – in which Eddie and his son Dylan clashed – the Marvel Universe gets a Brand new Venom funny.

Al Ewing will write the series, while Carlos Gómez will be responsible for the art work. The biggest difference in Brand new Venom will be that the Lethal Protector will get a new host and an Earth-bound story that will return the character to his roots after years of cosmic, universe-changing adventures.

We don’t yet know who the new Venom is, but according to Polygon, the book presents four possibilities: Robbie Robertson, Madame Masque, Rick Jones and Luke Cage.

“I like Rick Jones!” says Ewing. “Has the sidekick become the main hero now? That’s the question. It’s good to write a version of Rick who has been through a lot and come out the other side. This is a much more relaxed, joke-telling and funnier Rick than we’re used to seeing from me.”

“Madame Masque is another big suspect. She comes straight from the gang war, where we last saw her in a Spidey context. She has plans,” he continued. “Do these plans involve commanding a symbiote? Is it about taking revenge on other gangs in an identity no one would suspect? The ultimate mask for Madame Masque?”

“Robbie Robertson is someone who has also been touched by the great gang war and Spidey. He has never been tempted by power or superpowers. Has that changed after his son became so involved in the New York underworld and fell in love with the Beetle? Will Robbie find a way to take control of things in a way that he can’t as a newspaperman?”

Ewing concluded by saying: “(We’ve) seen that Luke Cage has trouble getting out there and doing what he loves to do while sitting behind the mayor’s desk. Would this be a way to do that? Would this be a way to take on a different identity, to kick the butt of whoever he knows needs a kicking, but in a capacity where he’s not dealing with it in an official capacity?”

“He doesn’t have to answer questions that he would have to answer if he went out in the mayor’s outfit and did what he used to do for the community. Maybe a symbiote is the perfect disguise for him…”
