Marvel Comics gives the Fantastic Four a two-month break before a big 2025

Fantastic Four will get even bigger in 2026 with the release of Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four. And while the comics division is feverishly working on new Fantastic Four comics to run alongside it, they’re taking an 8-week break from the usual monthly release of the Fantastic Four title before the big day.

Marvel Comics is delaying its ongoing Fantastic Four series due to what the author calls a “scheduling issue.” Fantastic Four #26 is set to release on October 8, after which the book will be on hiatus until at least December 2024. This schedule comes after the FF series was not listed on the company’s November 2024 schedule, leading some fans to believe that the final issue of a new installment meant the series was in trouble. But we’re told that’s not the case.

“I’m seeing some concerns about the Fantastic Four, but don’t worry!” tweeted Fantastic Four writer Ryan North. “A scheduling issue has prevented us from putting out the solicitations in November, but I promise there’s plenty more to come 🙂 Thanks everyone for the messages!”

Looking at the release schedule of Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four over the past few months, the potential problem becomes a little clearer. While Fantastic Four and most other Marvel comics are designed to release a new issue every month, this series is two issues in August and plan for the September issue of Fantastic Four #25 to be “extra large” – so large that the publisher is raising the price of the book by 25%.

This comes as the larger Marvel corporation plans to go big with the Fantastic Four in 2025, leading up to Fantastic Four: First Steps in July. Marvel Comics has announced some big events for the comic title in 2025 that are designed to excite readers – even readers like the film’s director, Matthew Shakman.

“I don’t look at the other movies so much. I look at the comics themselves,” Shakman recently told Inverse. “I’m a huge comic book fan. I’ve been a huge Fantastic Four fan since I was a kid. So I go back to Kirby and Lee and Byrne and follow everything all the way back to what’s happening, certainly Hickman and Waid and Ryan North, what he’s done. I try to figure out who these characters are to me and how I can best bring them to life, and that’s really what I started with and that’s how we approached it.”

The next issue of Fantastic Four is Fantastic Four #24 on August 28. The title will have two more issues and then a break of at least 8 weeks before continuing.
