Mary Trump’s four words in response to Donald Trump’s new post

Mary Trump, the estranged niece of former President Donald Trump, posted a four-word post on social media on Saturday in response to her uncle’s recent Truth Social post.

In November, Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, will face Vice President Kamala Harris, who officially accepted the Democratic nomination for president on Thursday at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago.

On Saturday, the former president shared another user’s photo and caption on his social media platform Truth Social. User Trump Army posted a photo of Donald Trump riding a lion and wrote, “There is only one candidate who can make America great again.”

In response to the post, Mary Trump, who has been a vocal critic of her uncle, wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday: “Cats hate you, nutcase.”

Newsweek Trump’s campaign team asked for comment via email.

Mary Trump has not supported her uncle’s recent presidential campaigns, and in 2020 she published a memoir critical of him. Too much and never enough.

In response to Mary Trump’s recent X-post, Steven Cheung, the former president’s communications director, said in an email to Newsweek on Sunday morning: “Trump Derangement Syndrome is a serious problem and some people need to get checked out.”

While the reasons for the post remain unclear, one of the Harris campaign’s main lines of attack on the Trump campaign was to label the former president and his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, “weird” after Vance referred to prominent Democrats as “childless cat ladies” in a 2021 interview with Fox News and Trump tried to defend him.

Mary Trump also recently praised Harris’ campaign team for its response to Donald Trump’s attacks, saying, for example, that Harris would be a “terrible president” and admitting that he “doesn’t have much respect for her” or her “intelligence.”

“Harris and Walz voters understand that the best way to bring down a tyrant with the power of Donald Trump – the unimaginable power he hopes to seize – is to mock him and get others to laugh at him,” Mary Trump said last week in her newsletter, “The Good In Us.”

Previously spoken with NewsweekCheung said: “She (Mary Trump) has no idea what she is talking about and should probably spend a little less time on Twitter at Resistance and more time in the real world where she would realize that Americans support President Trump and want him back in the White House.”

Mary Trump’s post on Saturday came after she attended the DNC last week and posted a video of Harris’ acceptance speech on X, writing, “We are making history tonight.”

Harris entered the presidential race just over a month ago, after President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential election in unprecedented fashion on July 21. During the DNC, Democratic politicians, celebrities, delegates and others gathered to rally behind Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Since Harris was named the Democratic presidential candidate, national opinion polls have put her either ahead of Donald Trump or tied.

This is a stark contrast to early July, when Biden was still in the race and Donald Trump was consistently ahead of him in polls. According to Mary Trump, this is a source of great frustration for her uncle.

“He remains angry that he is no longer running against President Biden,” she wrote in her newsletter last week. “He has no idea how to combat the fact that he is losing, so he is resorting to even crueler means.”
