Medina accepts applications for city-owned deer hunting program

MEDINA, Ohio — Medina’s deer hunting season begins late next month and Police Chief Ed Kinney said anyone who wants to participate can submit their application now.

“Our season runs from September 28th to February 2nd. Anyone who would like more information can go to medinaoh.org and then to the police department’s website to find the application packet,” Kinney said. “You can also stop by the police department lobby and pick up an application packet.”

Kinney said Lt. Scott Marcum is the contact person for the program and anyone with questions can contact him directly.

In addition to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources rules and regulations, program participants must follow city rules. Hunters must be at least 21 years old and provide proof of five years of experience or five deer hunts. Hunters must notify police before each day and at the end of each day and must use approved archery equipment. Bow hunting must occur 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.

Hunters must carry a valid hunting license and written permission from the owner of the property on which they are hunting.

Hunters must remove entrails from the owner’s property unless the owner has agreed otherwise. Animals may not be gutted in public view. Hunters may not enter adjacent property without permission.
