Meet the cast of Comixology Originals “Beneath” by writer Steven S. DeKnight and artist Michael Gaydos

Great writers are always busy. Take the multi-talented Steven S. DeKnight, for example. This writer, director and producer is constantly expanding his creative horizons with new and exciting projects. In a recent Conversation, in which we discussed his book Tough businesshe mentioned his collaboration with Comixology Originals entitled Including. A horror-based graphic novel written by him with illustrations by Michael Gaydos, currently available digitally.

Including

Including is a classic horror story that mixes horror and social commentary, leaving room for the reader to interpret where the true horror of the story is revealed. It was Steven’s first graphic novel and he was delighted to be able to write the kind of story that would make his readers think and question.

Michael S. DeKnight

I’ve always loved monsters – ghouls and ghosts, vampires and werewolves, zombies and giant radioactive creatures. The best genre stories ask questions that often lack the easiest answers. They make you think while also displaying the sleight of hand of entertainment that artfully compel the viewer or reader to question their own perceptions and worldview.

Meet the cast of Beneath

Thanks to our friends at Comixology Originals, we now offer an exclusive look at the cast of Including with art by Michael Gaydos and biographies by Steven S. DeKnight.

Sketch of a person wearing a cowboy hat. The drawing is monochromatic with a blue-green hue. The person has long hair and is looking forward.
DEPUTY SHERIFF JESS DELGADO – First generation Mexican-American, she is committed to enforcing the laws of the land with as much compassion and understanding as possible, but she is also just as quick to bury your face in the ground if you don’t follow the rules.
A sketch of a young woman with long dark hair looking over her shoulder, wearing a patterned garment.
MIRELLA – An eight-year-old undocumented immigrant caught up in a horrific incident at the border. A true innocent haunted by hatred, prejudice and fear of something supernatural beneath the earth.
A sketched portrait of a middle-aged man with short hair wearing a dark jacket. The background is textured blue.
PRITCHER COLE – A gun-toting force of nature who firmly believes immigrants are ruining this country. He’s not all bad, but he’s a damn long way from good.
A black and white sketch of a man with glasses and a beard wearing a uniform and looking over his shoulder.
FRANK JENKINS — Director of CoreCivil, a for-profit immigration detention center in West Texas. Just a guy who does his job when asked. Others say he could do it with a hell of a lot more compassion.
A grayscale illustration of a woman with shoulder-length hair looking slightly to the left, signed with the initials "ACG" bottom right.
ISABELLA “IZZY” RAMIREZ – The medical assistant at the CoreCivil Immigration Detention Center. She manages to follow the rules while genuinely helping the people in her care.
A monochrome sketch of an older man with a beard wearing a brimmed hat and a collared shirt.
SHERIFF CURTIS JACKSON – He may not have done everything, but he sure as hell has seen it all. A good man caught in the impossible situation of not allowing racial tensions to flare up in a small West Texas border town at the end of the world.
Hand drawn portrait of a man with a short beard and tousled hair, smiling slightly. The background is teal and the portrait is sketched with dark ink.
ANDY – An activist trying to make the world a better place for those less fortunate. He doesn’t particularly care about law enforcement, but he makes a big exception for Deputy Jess Delgado.
A sketch of a man with medium length hair and a goatee, wearing a dark shirt and looking forward. The background is a textured teal color.
MIGUEL – An inmate at the CoreCivil Immigration Detention Center. What the police would call a “bad hombre.” But if you take the time to look at him, there’s still a lot of good in him.
