While attending an appointment in Colombia last week, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, showcased a new handbag trend that fashion experts in New York and Monaco have called a key purchase for the new season.
She opted against the typical brown or black handbag and opted for a bright, fresh white handbag to complete her elegant look. The bag was Loro Piana’s Loom Bag L32 ($4,700), a top-handle model with a slightly casual silhouette.

Markle isn’t the only one pushing the white handbag trend this season. I’ve also witnessed the trend in some of the world’s chicest cities. It’s a neutral shade that’s both fresh and sophisticated (and goes with any other color). Personally, I find that a white handbag adds a bright and elegant element to an outfit in a simple and fuss-free way.
It’s also a new classic on the fashion scene, as I’ve slowly been leaning into the trend over the past few months. I’ve pushed it aside for fear of looking “cheap” (probably reflecting my own lack of confidence in the cleanliness of a white leather item), but I’ve recently realized that the trend can look extremely elegant when styled carefully. A far cry from the looks we wore in the 2000s, when white bags last peaked, Markle’s navy and white combo looks so classy. I’ve also seen white bags worn with other light, neutral shades in an undeniably chic way.
After spotting this trend on the streets of New York, Monaco and now Colombia, we are sure that white bags will become a staple of the new season this year.
