Mental health incident leads to curfew in Napa

Updated on Tuesday, 12:43 Napa police closed a block of South Jefferson Street and urged residents to seek safety after a resident was reported to be suffering from mental health issues Monday night, police said. The incident ended with no reported arrests or injuries.

Police issued the curfew around 10 p.m. via text message and social media. South Jefferson was closed off in the 300 block from Old Sonoma Road to Locust Street, and residents were asked to stay in their homes.

The curfew was lifted at 11:30 p.m.

According to police Lt. Christopher Pacheco, officers and a mobile mental health response team set up a perimeter around a home and closed the nearby street as a precaution. The perimeter “allowed staff to focus on the person in need and prevent any unintended or outside influences or distractions,” he said in an email.

Pacheco did not name the person who called police, citing doctor-patient confidentiality. The person has not been arrested and police are investigating whether a crime was committed, Pacheco said.
