The deep, saturated purple wood stain is perfect for all your upcycling needs.
Another selection for Color of the Year has been announced, and the latest choice is further proof that jewel tones will dominate in the coming year. Minwax, America’s best-selling interior wood stain brand, has selected Violet—a deep, saturated shade of purple—as its color for 2025.
“Deeper, more saturated colors, including purple-tinged blues, can serve as compelling alternatives to timeless hues,” says Lisbeth Parada, color and design director at Minwax. “Purple, when combined with natural wood tones, creates a striking contrast that feels both classic and modern.”

Minwax chose its 2025 Color of the Year based on current and upcoming design trends. According to the brand, Violet is inspired by the growing maximalism movement, which combines vibrant colors with intricate patterns and textures. Maximalism is a celebration of personal expression expressed through eclectic combinations and bold statements.
While it’s undeniably a departure from neutrals, there are plenty of practical ways to incorporate purple into the home. “From subtle pops of color to bold color-saturated statements, this versatile hue offers homeowners countless opportunities to add depth and character to any space,” says Parada.
As a wood stain, Violet also allows consumers to get creative with upcycling furniture, a growing trend among younger generations. “Violet redefines wood interior design by combining timeless elegance with contemporary boldness,” Parada said. “Whether you’re looking to add character to a treasured heirloom, breathe new life into furniture, or create inviting spaces like coffee bars or reading nooks at home, Minwax Violet interior stain adds a touch of joy to any room.”
