Morning briefing: Mets start decisive series with victory

Good morning, Mets fans!

Sean Manaea picked up his 10th win of the season on Wednesday with an 8-3 victory for the Orange and Blue. The Mets are now 69-63, three games behind the Braves for the third wild card spot. The D-backs are now 75-57, tied with the Padres for the first wild card spot. Manaea got off to another strong start, allowing no runs in his first six innings before allowing three runs in the seventh. Aided by a six-run inning in the fifth, the Mets cruised to a win in the desert. Francisco Lindor, Mark Winds, Brandon Nimmo and JD Martinez all had multiple hits, only one starter failed to score (Jesse Winker).

Wildcard Update

San Diego defeated the Cardinals 7-5, thanks to another home run by Manny Machado and a three-hit performance by Luis ArráezThe Padres remain three games ahead of the Braves and six games ahead of the Mets.
