Fillion has always been a fan of the comic book genre. He was able to transfer his passion for superheroes by starring in several superhero projects. He has a long history as a Green Lantern in the DC animated films before actually becoming one in the upcoming live-action Superman film. In a 2007 interview with Games Radar, Fillion ran through a list of superheroes he would have liked to play, including the ring-wearing space cop.

“I could be Green Lantern. I could be Captain America. I think it’s time for a Canadian Captain America! I would love to play Jonah Hex; not necessarily a ‘superhero’ but a character from the DC comics, and I think that would be a great role. So, yes, I like comic book heroes. My mom always says to me, ‘Nathan, you’re a real geek – your advantage is that you look mainstream.’ And she’s right,” Fillion said.

But apart from superheroes, he also had his eye on a few supervillains that he would have liked to play as well.

“I thought I would have been a great Eddie Brock – I would have been a great Venom. But that’s over,” he said.

The reason Fillion thought he didn’t get the role was because Topher Grace was cast as Eddie Brock. Spider Man 3.

Nathan Fillion wanted to be a villain in Daniel Craig’s James Bond films

Fillion didn’t just want to play the villain in comic book movies. He would have enjoyed facing off against James Bond on the big screen. He was particularly interested in Daniel Craig’s Bond series. He even imagined what his Bond character might look like as the opposite of Craig. 007 villains were sometimes known for having unique physical features that made them stand out.

“So what kind of affectation could I have? In the last film, it was fantastic to cry blood. I could say half burned,” said Fillion. “By acid. Half scarred, disfigured by acid. I always covered myself with something or had a fan with me all the time. Can I contact you when I come up with a plan for world domination? Money is the root of all evil, so it would have to be something to do with money. Gold is too special, though, and that’s what Goldfinger did. It must be something to do with satellites and computers.”

Nathan Fillion played a villain for the first time in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”

Fireflies Creator Joss Whedon cast Fillion in a major role in the successful vampire series Buffy the Vampire SlayerIn an interview with Comic Book, Fillion reflected on what he learned about playing a villain on the television series.

“That was the first time I played a villain. And Joss Whedon taught me a lot about playing villains,” Fillion said. “First of all, the villain doesn’t think he’s the villain. That was very eye-opening for me. He’s not able to throw up his hands and say, ‘I’m the bad guy and I’m going to do something mean.’ He’s right and he’s righteous, which I think leads to… I’m really scared of righteous people because once they’re righteous, they can’t be wrong. Whatever they want, they feel righteous. You can’t stop them. That’s the worst thing. So yeah, that scares me too.”
